Reno target scoring on home ground

Reno Football Club are looking to make finishing a habit on their home ground, when they tackle Arnett Gardens in a National Premier League match at Frome Sports Complex at 3:00 this afternoon.

The Westmoreland team scored their first home goal against debutants Highgate United in Sunday's eighth round, but it was not enough to give them the much sought-after three points they are yet to give their home fans this season, as the game ended 1-1.

Reno now have 10 points, one more than Arnett Gardens, who are ninth in the 12-team standings. Portmore United lead with 17, followed by defending champions Tivoli Gardens, on 16.

"This is our first goal at home in four games so, hopefully, this is a start and we can continue this when we meet Arnett Gardens here at home on Wednesday," said Wendell Downswell, Reno's technical director.

Captain Nicholi Findlayson was the man on target for Reno in the 38th minute, by way of a header, which was out of reach of Rodney Hamilton in the Highgate goal.

This lead was, however, cancelled at the 75th minute when substitute Horace James, who was on the pitch for just three minutes, latched on to the ball, which was held up in a puddle of water caused by heavy rains, before Reno goalkeeper Dennis Taylor could collect it.

Downswell was again disappointed with the offence of his team, saying they are still not making use of the chances created.

"Our offence is not making use of the chances and the defence had to be working overtime, so we continue to dominate the games, but we are just not scoring goals," Downswell said.

Michael Smith, Highgate's assistant coach, believes team spirit enabled them to secure a point.

"We were down one-nil in the first half, but the team came out with a lot of heart and character, hence we got a goal and came out with a point."

The point lifted Highgate to eighth, one ahead of fellow newcomers Montego Bay United, who they will host at Lynch Park this afternoon.
