Opposition blasts gov't over leak probe
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC):
The main opposition St Lucia Labour Party yesterday blasted Prime Minister Stephenson King for his promise to probe leaks by civil servants, based on a statement by the opposition leader that officials were giving him unsolicited information.
"King's pretense at having concern for the preservation of rules and regulations contradicts his willingness to preside over five years of constant violations of the law by members of his UWP administration," said the opposition leader.
Earlier this week, King said that an investigation was being launched to determine why the government's public information channel, the National Television Network, did not broadcast the prime minister's addresses to the nation for the past two Mondays.
King, who is preparing to contest a general election later this year, has scheduled a series of weekly radio and television broadcast.
