Bartley, Munn-Barrow lead Alliance Buccaneers Golf
Lindy Bartley and Jodi Munn-Barrow led the men's and women's categories of the Alliance Buccaneers Memorial Golf Tournament at the end of yesterday's opening day at the Caymanas Golf Club.
Bartley had a good day, shooting a three under par or 69 after shooting two under on hole number six on the front nine and one under on hole 16 on the back nine. Munn-Barrow shot an even par 72 on the day, though a close look at the scorecard showed that she shot one under or birdies on the eighth, ninth and 18th holes and one over on holes five, six and eleven.
In the men's category, the leader is followed by Mark Newnham 73, Wesley Brown 74, Brian Bailey 75 and Paul Thompson 76.
Super Senior category
Munn-Barrow is followed by Maggie Lyn on 73, or one over par, while Rochell Prince is seven strokes back on 80, Michelle Gabay is in fourth on 82 while Chrystall Gayle is 23 strokes off the lead on 95.
Rory Jardine leads in the men's senior category on par. Robert Chin is in second on a five over par 77 while the president of the Jamaica Golf Association, Wayne Chai Chong, is also on 77.
The men's Super Senior category is led by Dennis Atkinson on three over par 75, followed by Tony Gooden 79, Fred Sutherland 80, Mike Rochester 85, and Phillip Leung 85.
One hundred and thirty golfers turned up to compete in the tournament, including 24 juniors. Oshane Haye, with a score of four over par or 76 leads the Junior category. Dwight Moulton and Zondie Royes come next on 83.
Bartley tees off at 11 a.m. today with Rory Jardine, Mark Newnham and Wesley Brown. Jodi Munn-Barrow is scheduled to tee off at 7:12 a.m.
The tournament features two competitions running concurrently. One is a two-day, 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association qualifier, while the other which is being played today is a modified Stableford competition in the form of a cha-rity fund-raiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre. Last year's tournament realised $600,000 for the centre.
