Heavy D is dead
According to website TMZ, rap legend Heavy D - one of the most influential rappers of the '90s - died yesterday.
Heavy D - real name Dwight Arrington Myers - was rushed to an LA hospital around noon and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1 p.m. He was 44 years old.
The website later explained that a 911 call was placed from Heavy D's Beverly Hills home around 11:25 yesterday morning to report an unconscious male on the walkway.
When help arrived, Heavy D was apparently conscious and speaking - and was transported to a nearby hospital. He died a short time later.
Police are investigating the death - and so far, there are no obvious signs of foul play. At press time, police were still at the rapper's home.
Heavy D, who was born in Jamaica, became a favourite with Jamaican audiences after his liaison with Jamaican superstar, Super Cat.
The union took Super Cat to stardom in the United States.
According to theGrio.com, Heavy D suffered from a yet-to-be-identified infection.
His hits included The Overweight Lover's in the House, We Got Our Own Thang, Now That We Found Love and the theme from the hit television show In Living Color.
