Restaurant Week is really ruling the social scene, and we're capturing all the happenings.

Thursdaytalk
Roadwork everywhere!

1. While some are offended by the flurry of road repairs all over the island, including feverish work at night in some constituencies, some cynics are now asking for elections of MPs every year or biannually, in the hope this will improve on the road infrastructure!

Helpers feeling the pinch!

2. As the international recession that would not have affected us spreads, corporate layoffs have become the order of the day, but some were shocked to hear at a recent gathering that some household helpers have had their salaries reduced as part of the cost-cutting exercise!

These are 'troubled times'

3.Some have dubbed them 'Troubled Times', and their reason for dubbing them thus is the fact that they say that the major problem now facing the country is that it's the 'C' and 'D' teams that are now running things. The 'A' team has retreated to their own enclaves or to their stateside homes and businesses!

What's up with visas?

4. Story is 'the authorities' both nationally and internationally, are investigating one elected official for his role in offering visas for sale.

Can't be real? Is it?

5. Concerns and eyebrows are being raised as news is emerging that some people who opted not to participate in the Jamaica Debt Exchange had their initial tax assessments raised within weeks after they declined to participate. But what has some really worried is the fact that when they queried the new assessments, they were advised by the officials they spoke to that the orders came from higher up!

There's more to come!

6. Some say the $100-m building is just the tip of the road-berg! They say stories abound about over-invoicing and underperformance that is all about the facilitation of corruption. They say, in the end, a few have benefited immensely!

Run for corruption

7. Quote of the Week: "I am now convinced that some who offer themselves for representational political office on the platform of cleaning up corruption, do so hoping to be the ones administering the corruption themselves!"
