Galaxia Block on Taylor Hall, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, hosts the annual party Intensity. The party has been a crowd favourite since its first staging and, according to the promoters, Intensity never ceases to deliver the goods. This year's edition is dubbed the 'Total Meltdown Edition ... Fire vs Ice' and is on at Taylor Hall's Multipurpose Room tomorrow night, from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

The block's cultural entertainment affairs chairperson, Amoi Smith, said she wants this Intensity to be different. "Female-hosted parties tend to have one common theme, like bad versus good, so I wanted to put a twist to it. Its fire versus ice. The fire represents hot and fierce and ice represents cool and sexy," she said.

Free shots and piercings

The CEAC said patrons can expect to have fun, and incentives will be available, courtesy of sponsors Rum Fire and Salon Splurt. "We will have free Rum Fire shots all night and free piercings for a limited period. However, in the event that a charge is attached, it will be a very reduced rate," Smith said.

The musical juggling will be conducted by three disc jockeys who she credits as being the hottest on the college circle. "We will have DJ Nicco, who is the resident DJ at UWI Integration Thursdays, and DJs Spinn and Granty, who are both hot picks at UWI events," she said.

According to Smith, Intensity is dynamic and, as such, the event will switch musical lanes throughout the night to give patrons a rounded, intense experience. "It's the final party on Taylor Hall, the 'Hall of Halls', for the semester, and we have to go out with a bang; so the music will speak for itself. Dancehall, soca, reggaeton - you name it, we will have it on the night. No patron will be allowed to leave the venue not feeling like they had a great time," she promised.

"Persons love the concept and they are eager to be part of it. The expectations are very high right now, because we have made a name for ourselves over the years," she said. Admission to Intensity is $150 for females and $200 for men presold. At the gate all patrons will be required to pay $250.

"Intensity is a unique party and fun is guaranteed. It's also the last party on Taylor Hall for the semester, so it's going to be a grand affair. Intensity is also a charity event hosted by Galaxia, so, yes, you will be having loads of fun, but it will also be for a good cause," Smith said.
