Frankel named Horse of the Year

Today's racing takes place at Ascot, Haydock, Kempton and Wolverhampton in the evening. There is also simulcast racing from Aqueduct in the United States.

News coming out of England is that the unbeaten British colt, FRANKEL, was named Cartier 'Horse of the Year' on Tuesday, after taking flat racing by storm in a stellar 2011.

The three-year-old colt extended his flawless record to nine races by claiming five wins this year, including an impressive display in the 2000 Guineas where he romped home by six lengths.

FRANKEL, who is the world's top-ranked horse, was also named the best three-year-old colt at an awards ceremony in London, after votes were cast by a panel of racing journalists and readers of British newspapers Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.

After proving himself over a mile this year, FRANKEL - named after legendary American trainer Bobby Frankel - is likely to to step up in distance to 10 furlongs for 2012, and could finish next year competing in the Breeders' Cup. FRANKEL is trained by former champion Henry Cecil and was ridden in all his races by the stable jockey, Tom Queally.

The Arc winner DANEDREAM from Germany, the New Zealand-bred horse SO YOU THINK and the French pair GOLDIKOVA and CIRRUS DES AIGLES were also on the shortlist for the coveted award given to the leading Europe-based horse of 2011.

Today at Kempton in the 29th race over a mile, we like the look of Kieren Fallon's mount WOOLSTON FERRY (9-2).
