Digicel/ISSA netball at semi-finals stage

Following two weeks of second-round action in the Digicel/ISSA Corporate Area Netball competition at the Leila Robinson Netball Courts, the semi-finalists in both junior and senior sections were decided last Friday with defending junior champions, The Queen's School, and senior champions, St Hugh's High, booking their tickets to stay on course to retaining their titles.

Among the juniors, the Marvette Anderson-coached Queen's, despite losing in mid-week to St Hugh's, bounced back on Friday to beat Campion 21-17 to finish as runners-up in Group One with four wins and one defeat. St Hugh's remained unbeaten as in a rain-shortened match they stopped Camperdown 21-15 for their fifth win in a row to top the group.

St Catherine High and Vauxhall also advanced to the semi-finals after finishing first and second, respectively, in Group Two. The Spanish Town-based team, however, lost their unbeaten tag as in a must-win situation the Rohan Robinson-coached Vauxhall, in a brilliant display, surprised their opponents 34-26. Three teams - St Catherine, Vauxhall and Norman Manley - all ended on the same number of points after losing one match each, but St Catherine came out on top ahead of Vauxhall with a better goal difference.

Queen's handed points

Queen's, the best team among the seniors, did not take the court last Friday as their opponents, Wolmer's Girls, failed to show. Queen's were handed the points to top Group One with maximum 15 points. Defending champions, St Hugh's, drubbed Camperdown 52-9 to finish runners-up in the group.

St Catherine High stayed on course for the double as they stopped Excelsior High 31-23 to pick up their fifth win in a row and, in the process, topped Group Two. They were joined by St Andrew High in the semi- finals as they had an easy 54-20 win over Tarrant.

The semi finals for both juniors and seniors will be played on Friday at the same venue starting at 1:30 p.m. St Hugh's will play Vauxhall and St Catherine will battle Queen's in junior action, while in the seniors, it will be St Hugh's against St Catherine and Queen's versus St Andrew High.
