Police question pilot caught with drugs
BRIDGETOWN (CMC):
A police spokesman yesterday confirmed that a pilot was in custody assisting law-enforcement authorities with investigations into a drug seizure.
Sources told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that the male first officer was held after arriving on a flight from St Vincent Wednesday evening and marijuana found in two bags he was carrying.
Police have not released the pilot's name but sources said he is an employee of the regional airline LIAT.
When contacted, LIAT's Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown would only say that "The airline is aware of an incident involving one of its pilots. We are awaiting further details on the incident."
Public relations officer of the Barbados Police Force, Inspector David Welch, said an update on the situation would likely be available at a later date.
