Having worked within the field of psycho-therapy in Canada for close to 20 years, Jamaican Paulet Biedermann has seen up front the repercussions of stress-related illnesses.
The Toronto-reared Biedermann shares her experiences in Your Best You: Your Ultimate Guide to Personal Growth and Self-Empowerment, which was officially released through amazon.com yesterday.
Biedermann is hoping to reach a wide audience with her debut tome which she describes as "the mother of self-improvement books". It is a guide, she added, for persons suffering from chronic anxiety and low self-esteem.
"It helps individuals to become self-confident, self-aware and more self-reliant," she said.
"The techniques and strategies outlined in this book address each and every area of your life," she continued. "Your mind, soul and body will experience the most radical transformation imaginable."
With psychological-related illnesses at a universal high, the motivational book industry has become quite lucrative. Authors like Deepak Chopra have become celebrities by producing books that stimulate the mind.
While she would like Your Best You to be a strong seller, Biedermann stressed the importance of making a difference with the depressed who account for the highest number of suicides in many countries.
"Everyone is blessed with the potential for an awesome life. Some of us realise optimum potential with minimal effort while others fight an unwinnable battle," she explained. "It does not have to be that way."
Born in Hanover, Biedermann has lived in Toronto for more than 30 years. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Waterloo in Ontario and diploma in advance studies in mental health (psychotherapy and counselling) from Mt Royal University in Alberta.
She is planning to launch Your Best You: Your Ultimate Guide to Personal Growth and Self-Powerment in Jamaica next March.
