Jacobs, Campbell shine

Melbourne batting all-rounder Damion Jacobs and St Ann opener John Campbell yesterday gave the national selectors something to think about ahead of the selection of Jamaica's team for next next month's lucrative Caribbean Twenty20 Tournament.

Jacobs, who has done well at club level in recent seasons, hit a quick-fire 44 off 30 balls and claimed 4-8 off three overs, while Campbell hit 56 off 36 balls as Bernard Jr's XI recorded a 35-run win over Tamar Lambert's XI in Jamaica's third trial match at Kensington Park.

The right-handed Jacobs hit two sixes and two fours while the left-handed 18-year-old Campbell, who has in the past represented the West Indies Under-15 and Under-19 teams, slammed four sixes and two fours.

Also getting among the runs for Bernard Jr's XI was St Elizabeth opener Brenton Parchment who, after a top score and match-winning innings of 31 off 30 balls in the first trial match, and 27 off 26 balls in the second, followed up with 24 off 22 balls.

Xavier Marshall, with 43 off 47 balls, including two fours and a six, Combined Campuses and Colleges batting all-rounder Nkrumah Bonner, with 23 off 24 balls, and in-form Kingston wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton, with an unbeaten 22 off just 12 balls, made most runs for the losers.

"It was another good trial match as we used the opportunity to give a chance to a number of new players who did not get a lot of opportunity to express themselves in the first game, and for the most part they came good," said Jamaica coach Junior Bennett.
