West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON) has gone upmarket with three new developments in Graham Heights and Mona.

WIHCON, the builder of nearly 40,000 homes over the past 53 years, has earned a reputation for fulfilling the dreams of homebuyers with modest budgets. It introduced the first-ever housing development in Jamaica and is well known for its Mona and Portmore housing solutions. The company recently segmented its business model into two sections: WIHCON Homes, which will continue to bring new designs, technical capabilities and quality products to satisfy first-time buyers, and WIHCON Select, with upmarket products like Somerset Homes, Sunflower Manor and Aqueduct Gates.

Somerset Homes, located in Birdsucker Heights, features 40 town houses with three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms and a full-size ensuite bonus room that can be used for a multiplicity of purposes, whether as a guest room, as a den or as a helper's room. The houses boast attractive features, including high, tray ceilings in the upstairs bedrooms, each with its own attractively appointed bathroom, double-glazed windows for energy efficiency, solid wood crown mouldings and baseboards, a spacious kitchen with ample solid wood cupboards made of maple and a beautiful granite countertop.

In addition, five of the units will have basements beneath the ground floor that feature a full-size bedroom and bathroom, as well as a large entertainment area. The Somerset Homes community will also enjoy a pool with a clubhouse, 24-hour security and affordable maintenance fees.

The unveiling of Somerset Homes follows the successful introduction of WIHCON's two other upmarket developments in Mona. The 10, three-bedroom town houses at Sunflower Manor in Mona sold out within weeks of being put on the market. At the adjacent Aqueduct Gates, only five of 57 two-bedroom apartments remain available for sale.
