Phil Jones scored the first goal of his career as Manchester United ground out their fourth 1-0 win in five Barclays Premier League games to beat Aston Villa. The 19-year-old side-footed home Nani's cross from the left in the first half. The visitors were always in control, but James Collins might have snatched a point when his late header was tipped over by Anders Lindegaard. Injuries to Javier Hernandez, Shay Given and Jermaine Jenas marred a fairly insipid contest.

Yakubu scored four times to lift the pressure on boss Steve Kean as Blackburn claimed their second league win of the season. It allowed Blackburn to move off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League after a week which threatened Kean's position. Swansea's Leroy Lita had cancelled out Yakubu's first goal and at 3-1, Luke Moore added a second for the Welshman.

Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester City maintained their 100 per cent home league record with an impressive victory over Norwich City. Sergio Aguero stabbed his 13th goal of the season through a crowd of legs to put the league leaders in front. Samir Nasri's 35-yard free kick evaded everyone to double the lead before Yaya Toure curled in a third. Steve Morison headed in for Norwich from six yards, but Mario Balotelli scored with his shoulder and Adam Johnson's precise finish made it five.

Chelsea eased the pressure on manager Andre Villas-Boas with a victory which helped them leapfrog Newcastle and climb to fourth in the Barclays Premier League. Tim Krul saved Frank Lampard's penalty - awarded for a foul on Daniel Sturridge by Yohan Cabaye - but Didier Drogba headed the Blues in front. Newcastle missed a host of second-half chances before Salomon Kalou sealed the points with a neat 88th-minute finish. Sturridge then side-footed a third in injury time to deflate the Magpies.

Shane Long's fifth league goal of the season rescued a point for West Brom as QPR were denied only their second home win of the season. Heidar Helguson gave the hosts the lead by heading in Joey Barton's cross. Shaun Wright-Phillips thought he had doubled the lead, but his effort was disallowed for offside. Albion felt they should have had a penalty when Danny Gabbidon challenged James Morrison, before Long converted substitute Peter Odemwingie's cross.

Tottenham continued their great run with their sixth successive league win at the expense of 10-man Bolton. Gareth Bale gave Spurs an early lead with flick from Luka Modric's corner before paying tribute to Gary Speed in his celebrations. Bolton were then down to 10 men when defender Gary Cahill was sent off for a foul on midfielder Scott Parker. Aaron Lennon added an overdue second with a strike from 15 yards, before Jermain Defoe swept in the third.

Arsenal halted Wigan's mini revival with a crushing win at the DW Stadium. Wigan made a promising start, but two goals in two minutes punctured their hopes with Mikel Arteta's swerving long-range shot putting Arsenal ahead. Ali Al-Habsi might have saved Arteta's effort and the Wigan keeper was soon beaten by a Thomas Vermaelen header. Gervinho scored the third after after Al-Habsi parried a Robin van Persie shot and the Dutchman added the fourth after good work from Theo Walcott.
