Selfish and power-hungry public 'officials'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The more I see and hear some of our politicians, the more I respect my dog. This is because of their wicked ways.

The Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme scandal is a recent case in point. Millions of dollars have been improperly used from the country's coffers by selfish and power-hungry 'officials'. The programme was crafted to avoid all forms of accountability in order that money could be spent. All members of Government knew about this grand design, yet some of them are now pretending that they are paragons of virtue.

I am deeply hurt because many roads are filled with potholes while others are totally impassable. A few months ago, I saw some citizens from a community in St Elizabeth begging someone from the authorities to help them with their roads. Their roads had been damaged since 2007.

The people cannot find a market for their produce. But who cares? Yet these heartless officials are mismanaging the country's money with such shameless impunity. I wonder if some of these politicians have a conscience.
