Women's group wants UN rep's resignation
CASTRIES (CMC):
The local chapter of the Caribbean Feminists Research and Action (CAFRA) group has called for the resignation of St Lucia's permanent representative at the United Nations (UN), Keith St Aimee, accusing him of adopting positions against the advancement of women here.
Flavia Cherry, who heads the CAFRA branch here, said the positions taken by St Aimie at the United Nations were not reflective of the general consensus of the positions of women and the general population.
Speaking on television here, Cherry said the Women's Manifesto, which was prepared by CAFRA and handed to all political parties ahead of the November 28 general election outlined a number of concerns in relation to St Aimee.
"In the manifesto, we actually called for the removal of the permanent representative at the United Nations because we felt that over the past few years the women of this country have been very embarrassed at the level of representation we have had at the United Nations," she said.
