ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS

Twisted does it again

Twisted Spiritz, held on Friday at the Caymanas Polo Club, provided a night of good music, liquor and fashion. The event, which has a reputation for pulling out large crowds, did not disappoint, as patrons streamed out to make the most of the 21 mixes of Smirnoff.

The patrons were kept busy sampling the food while admiring the beautiful decor, the organisers had created. Others preferred to test the mixes being served by the beautiful Twisted Spiritz waitresses.

Smirnoff and Dark Entertainment did it once again, another successful staging of Twisted Spiritz.

Wet, wild fun at the Official and Original Water Party

Not even the meteorologist could have predicted what was going to transpire at the UDC parking lot, as the The Official and Original Water Party 'Beach in the City' kicked off New Year's Day with a flurry of showers - artificial showers that is - as hoses gushed patrons from all angles.

Staying dry was not an option unless you were in VIP.

This is the fifth year the event is being staged by Island Mas and, as expected the previous editions were outdone. The gates were open at 3 p.m., but it was not until four hours later that the venue was filled with patrons.

It appeared as if the people were wrestling with anacondas as they wielded the large hoses attached to water trucks, four of them at that, throughout the venue. There was also the sand pit, which complemented the beach theme. Some patrons were seen trying to remain dry. This wasn't for long, as the water eventually caught up with them.

X.Clusive fun on New year's Eve

It was a happy mood that reigned over the Caymanas Golf Club as persons welcomed 2012 at Ciroc X.Clusive 'Luminaries'.

The New Year's Eve show venue was decked out in white to bring off the 'luminaries' theme, and persons were dressed looking 'fabulous' as the dress code specified. When The Gleaner got to the venue, there was a long line of traffic to get in as persons rushed to greet the new year in style. Even though the majority of patrons missed the countdown to midnight, that did not deter them from having a good time.

Inside the venue, the party was divided into sections, as persons either hit the main dancefloor, hung out by the bars or took to the Digicel dancefloor by the pool. By the bars, the liquor flowed, but the same couldn't be said about the food section. A number of patrons could be heard complaining not only about the cramped space where the food section was, but the long lines it caused as well.

Perfect French Connection goes to Egypt

By the start of 2012, Fort Charles was already full. French Connection was already into the swing of the new year.

The venue was partially full and patrons could be seen flanking the edges of the venue using their phones to capture the fireworks that coloured the sea.

The event was dubbed 'The Immaculate', and if there was ever a party that had no flaws, this event would be regarded as such.

The venue provided a total VIP experience, decorated to resemble an Egyptian palace, with even the ushers dressed in accordance, wearing robes and white bandanas.

Patrons were given complimentary premium beverages for the entire night, as well as food.

And this treatment was extended until the wee hours of the morning.

Each section of the venue had a chill area decorated with sofas and chandeliers hanging from the roof, and the official VIP area was erected above the dancefloor.

It carried its own dancing space, with a hassle-free bar and exclusive catering courtesy of Gary of CB Chicken.

There was food in abundance and in variety, ranging from lobster, fried chicken, jerked chicken, rice, cake and soup, among others.

The music was also phenomenal.

Absinthe pulls big crowd

With patrons scampering for presold tickets earlier in the day, it came as no surprise that Absinthe: Supernova, at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track, Kingston, on Saturday, was a well-attended party.

While the party was already in full gear, some patrons ushered in the new year in traffic or in the parking lot. Nonetheless, the fireworks from Kingston Waterfront were still visible and the mood from inside the party was felt everywhere.

There was one flaw.

By 2 a.m., most of the bars had run out of popular liquor like vodka and white rum. At least the promoters could boast that food was still available long after 4 a.m.

Despite this glitch, and though it had been a long night, patrons seemed to be in no hurry to leave the party up to as late as 4:30 a.m.
