WESTERN BUREAU:

From an information science and technology student at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) into the business of entertainment and remittance services, 29-year-old Dwight Troupe is the epitome of entrepreneurial success.

The young entrepreneur from Montego Bay, St James, runs an entertainment and promotions company called Kendah Enter-tainment; operates T & S Collections store; and has partnered with his father, Michael, to open a chain of five remittance services and Paymaster locations across St James.

Additionally, young Troupe recently founded Troupe and Company Services which deals with the rental of tents, chairs, barricades, drum coolers, and portable bar counters.

"Being a young and energetic entrepreneur means having the ability to transition and evolve from one business to another with the resources available to you," Troupe told Western Focus.

Learning from mistakes

He said that persons have to be mindful that businesses have a lifespan - especially in an ever-changing society - and that as a young businessman, he is prepared to learn from his mistakes.

"I planned my first event at the age of 18 while attending NCU. It was an overwhelmingly exciting experience for me as it was my first-ever business venture, which involved making an investment with the expectation of earning returns."

He said it was also a great opportunity to partner with friends who shared a common interest, and an excellent avenue to put some of his college education into practice, and this led to the birth of Kendah Entertainment.

"It (party promotions) was never something I knew beforehand, nor would I say it was an accident. I was always a music fanatic, and music and entertainment go hand in hand. So I suppose it was always there in my subconscious waiting for the right opportunity to present itself."
