Slight change to classical concert series

The first Orrett Rhoden International Music Festival, announced in The Gleaner last week, has undergone the smallest of changes.
The three-part festival should have included a concert at the Kingston Parish Church on January 29. That has been tweaked.
Lovers of classical music who had planned to be there will have to wait an extra day, as Rhoden, organiser of the event, has pushed the date to January 30 and changed the venue to the University Chapel, Mona. That event begins at 6:45 p.m.
All else remains the same.
For ease of reference, the first event of the three will be held at Sandals Royal Plantation Hotel in Ocho Rios on Sunday, January 22, beginning at 5 p.m.
The final concert at Mountambrin in Westmoreland is to be held on Sunday, February 5, beginning at 2 p.m.
Appearing at these concerts will be the celebrated American concert baritone Dr Illo Humphrey, Mme Claudine Pascal- Grisi, concert organist from France, and Rhoden, himself an internationally acclaimed concert pianist.
The series of concerts will feature mainly works for baritone and organ by French composers such as Francois Couperin (1668-1733), Cesar Frank (1822-1896), Johan Alain (1911-1940), Jean Langlais (1907-1991) and Johan Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) his French suite No. 5 performed by Rhoden on the modern piano.
Audiences in Westmoreland will have a special treat when Rhoden performs Bach’s French suite on a Goble harpsichord.
Rhoden will also be making a special appearance on TVJ’s Profile with Ian Boyne on Sunday January 29, among other local radio appearances and will use these opportunities to inform Jamaicans and music lovers more about the festival, the artistes, the programmes and the main reason for the festival, which is to help keep classical music alive in Jamaica.
The festival is under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency, Ambassador Marc-Oliver Gendry of France.
Tickets can be bought at The Music Mart, Twin Gates in Kingston, Sandals Royal Plantation Hotel in Ocho Rios and Mountambrin in Westmoreland.
