Issue: Job Incentives: Offer tax credits to boost jobs

Published:Saturday | January 21, 2012 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As an avenue of non-cash funding for JEEP in our tight economic situation, I would recommend that the Government offer a tax credit to select companies and individuals to hire one or two people for six to 12 months.

This would guarantee three things: 1. Increased productivity. 2. On-the-job training for the participants. 3. The chance to have a permanent job should they prove an asset to their new employers.

This beats some of the other programmes that have been bandied about, and this would be rather long-term in its outlook. The programme need not affect revenue negatively, as it could be tied to various new initiatives or investments or delinquent taxpayers, etc.
