Mandeville came alive last Saturday with the staging of the 'stellar' calendar event, the Manchester Chamber of Commerce (MCOC) Annual Awards and banquet which was held at the Golf View Hotel.
It was a night of glitz and glamour which had the 'movers and shakers' of commerce in the parish of Manchester, along with the upper echelons of corporate Jamaica coming out in support of the red-carpet event.
Chaired by the dynamic radio personality Heather 'Brown Sugar Grant, patrons in attendance included members of parliament for South Manchester Michael Peart and Mikael Phillips.
Guest speaker on the night was Lt Col Oscar Derby, director general of Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority.
Some of the big winners on the night included Brumalia House which won the Business of the Year award. The banking and finance awards went to Manchester Co-op Credit Union. A company operated by the father and son team of Jackie and John O. Minott, Jamaica Standard Products, won the Family Business of the Year award. The Community Impact Award went to the Rotary Club of Mandeville. The Manufacturer of the Year award went to Pioneer Chocolate Co Ltd. Fontana Pharmacy won the Visionary award, the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award went to Devon Richards. The media award went to Northern Caribbean University Media Group. The Hospitality award went to Bloomfield Great House and the Technology award went to DecCarteret College BlackBerry team, o/c 'The Maestros'.
The audience was treated to some high-quality entertainment courtesy of singer Ken Boothe whose performance was simply electrifying, as well as Jambyz All-Star band and Sharon Martini.
