Jamaica's Second City is buzzing this weekend as Digicel, Compound Island and Secrets Resorts come together to host a series of entertainment events to coincide with the internationally renowned Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Kicking off last night, the events began with a cocktail reception at Secrets Resort & Spa for some of the island's glitterati.

Tonight, Digicel will be supporting the regional premiere of Red Tails, a movie by renowned producer George Lucas, which boasts an impressive cast including Cuba Gooding Jr and Ne-Yo.

Tomorrow, the group will host a VIP beach party to close out the weekend's activities.

Digicel Jamaica's senior sponsorships and activations manager, Shelly-Ann Curran, said; "Digicel is always looking for ways to support Jamaican culture and, as such, this weekend's collaboration with Compound Island and Secrets is a perfect fit for that. Together, we will be hosting some of the weekend's best entertainment events which will showcase Jamaica's music and film culture on the international stage. And with this being Jamaica's 50th anniversary, we are especially proud to be supporting the development and visibility of Brand Jamaica."

Curran further commended Ne-Yo for the vision of his record label, Compound Island, through which he will be searching for Jamaica's most talented musicians.

"Digicel is a proud supporter of Jamaican music through our sponsorships of Brand Ambassador, I-Octane and Digicel Rising Stars and our sponsorship of the Bob Marley Foundation. With that, we commend Ne-Yo's work with Compound Island and the development of Jamaican musicians," continued Curran.

Tishawn Gayle, president and COO of Compound Island, said: "Jamaica is one of our favourite islands to vacation. With the release of the movie, Red Tails, being one week prior to our visit we thought it would be a great idea to do a screening of the movie abroad and do our part to further tell this very important story that forms part of black history."

The VIP list includes the likes of Ne-Yo and a host of other international and local celebrities.
