US man dies in cruise ship fall

The world's largest cruise line, Carnival, has confirmed that an American passenger died in The Bahamas after he fell from an upper deck on board the Carnival Fantasy.

The cruise line said the 26-year-old Charleston, South Carolina man "fell from one of the upper levels of the ship's atrium to the lobby level, while Carnival Fantasy was docked in Nassau, the Bahamian capital, last Friday night".

Carnival Cruise line said it extended "heartfelt condolences to the guest's family and loved ones".

The cruise line said it was assisting Bahamian police in the investigation.

The Carnival Fantasy was on a five-day trip from Charleston to The Bahamas.
