My daahlings, if y'all missed the Wedding Channel's latest hot weddings, then you would have missed one fabulous spread featuring Jamaican bride Sashani Brown, the daughter of Supreme Court Justice Glen Brown and her American beau, Jason Trippett. They tied the knot last year in a very special celebrity bash that was aired on January 8.

It was done under the baton of celebrity wedding planner David Tutera, who plans dream weddings for unsuspecting brides. He has planned events at the White House, the Grammys and is best known for Disney Weddings and television personality Star Jones' wedding. His show has become popular as he surprises unsuspecting brides by planning a platinum affair in less than three weeks to the wedding day by changing all their ideas and making it grand.

The fantasy wedding was hosted at the glamorous Hollywood Roosevelt - the same venue as the original Academy Awards. It was a great day for all as Motown brought everyone together in Hollywood for the glamorous affair which featured wall-to-wall sequined gowns and three bands and a Grammy Award-winning surprise artiste.

Music the food of love

The bride and her groom made the show by writing to the organisers their idea of a Motown wedding, incorporating the opulence and essence of Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and all the fabulous pop music performances and platinum hit songs that immortalised these legendary stars. And the bride, a choreographer and dancer who always loved to sing, felt that music represented love and Michael Jackson was the greatest performer of all time, whose music also represented love in the same way that Bob Marley does.

Not being a wedding planner, she knew that she wanted her wedding to reflect the grandeur of Motown and the love she felt for Jason and her family. She opted to contact the show after coming under immense pressure from members of her family, who wanted her to have a traditional wedding. But, to her mind, that would not reflect the unique and special qualities of their love and personalities, their love of the arts, music, Motown and Hollywood. So, she contacted the show and, as they say, the rest is fabulous history!

With a theme of white, gold, and platinum and never-before-seen designer sequined bridesmaid gowns, the couple were surprised with a dream wedding at the historic venue at the Academy Awards' home in Hollywood next to the Walk of Fame and were presented with platinum and diamond rings to boot.

spectacular outfit

And talk about putting on the Ritz! In true Hollywood mode, the bride was treated as a celebrity as she was accorded a bodyguard and was draped in hundreds of thousands of dollars of platinum and diamond jewellery; and for the nuptials was given two spectacular wedding gowns - one for ceremony and the other for reception, with thousands of dollars worth of floral décor and (orchids, roses and call lilies), including a platinum mirrored dance floor, and two Motown performance bands.

Dears, the production showed all that and then some. But it was not all show and no seriousness. By way of saying thank you to David Utter, the bride made a generous donation to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which is one of his charities. She said, "I know charity is very important to David. Motown started on US$800 and a dream, so I want to thank you and give you this gift of US$800 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation to continue the dream." Talk about rich symbolism!

Highlight

The wedding ceremony was performed by the bride's stepfather, Pastor Karl Graham, while her father walked her down the aisle. The highlight of this was the pastor advising the groom: "You are marrying a very special lady. She was walked down the aisle by a judge, the scripture was read by a lawyer, and I have the licence to marry and to bury. So you make sure you take care of her."

In his toast to the bride and family, judge Glen Brown was quoted as saying: "Jamaica gave the world Bob Marley and I give you Sashani!"

Talk about fad! The TV highlights of the nuptials is a must-see, my dears!
