Will the Cari-Folk Singers get Myrna to dance?
A kaleidoscope of colour, song, dance, comedy and drama is what patrons will experience when one of Jamaica's leading performing choirs, the Cari-Folk Singers, takes centre stage for a guest appearance at the second revue of the successful Simply Myrna show on March 10, at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.
Cari-Folk Singers is renowned across the region for its extensive repertoire of Caribbean songs and the dynamic presentations which they bring to performances with excellent choral arrangements, emotion, theatrical movements and expression, along with their always-elegant costuming.
It comes as no surprise that the 200-member strong group has been rewarded for years of excellence in the performing arts with a gold medal at the Choir Olympics in Austria.
Love for dance
Will Jamaica's songbird Myrna Hague dance too?
"Everyone knows that I love to dance, and I am presently in rehearsal with Cari-Folk to be a part of the excitement when they take centre stage," said the multi-talented diva of jazz.
Special guest of the internationally acclaimed cabaret artiste will also be one of Jamaica's legendary balladeers and avid songwriter, Dobby Dobson, who sang his way into the hearts of music lovers during the 1950s through to the '70s with a slew of hits, including That Wonderful Sound and Endlessly, among others.
Dobson received a well-deserved honour from the Government of Jamaica, when he was conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD), for his contribution to reggae music and Jamaican culture.
Sweetening this musical feast will be guest arranger and conductor Ralph Holding Jr, who has written and arranged some new works to be performed by Myrna, backed by the inimitable Jamaica Big Band with an added string section, and featuring Marjorie Whylie and ace drummer Desi Jones.
Part proceeds from the show will go towards the Sonny Bradshaw Foundation. Tickets are $3,500 and are available at the Music Mart, Twin Gates, and the Jazz Centre, 22 East Kings House Road. Call 927-3544 for more information.
