Chutney Cruise

The recent fourth staging of the Chutney Cruise provided good entertainment and a chance to escape the stifling heat of the Corporate Area for those who took up the offer aboard the Caribbean Queen to enjoy a boat ride from the Kingston pier to Port Royal and Lime Cay before returning just after midnight.
The fund-raiser saw moderate attendance for the event which was thoroughly enjoyed as evidenced by patrons who kept the music selectors on their toes throughout the more than three-hour ride. It was, however, a tale of two parties as some persons relocated to the front of boat where they relaxed and engaged in conversation, away from the music.
This was after everyone had enjoyed some curried goat and curried chicken with roti, rice and peas or plain rice. For me though, the absence of dahl was a disappointment which was somewhat assuaged by the well-made dahl purée roti.
Between the night's cool air and well stocked bar, keeping refreshed was a breeze and there was more than enough space for patrons to roam the boat as they socialised or tried to identity landmarks they might easily have recognised in the daylight. Even with a 30-minute delay after the scheduled 8 o'clock start time to accommodate latecomers, the landlubbers were very alert and still seemed inclined to party as the boat docked. Between the goodbyes and checking to ensure that everyone had a ride home, it was obvious that this was a regular 'good vibes' event and already I'm looking forward to next year's staging.
