Online feedback

Below is online feedback from readers of the front-page story of Monday, February 28, headlined 'Livity Coke injured during violent resistance, says JDF'.

This story is so fabricated. If the prisoners were protesting and refuse to be removed from their cells, why was Leighton 'Livity' Coke the only prisoner assaulted?

I understand the story stated that he tried going back to his cell and wrestled a baton from one of the guards, but don't you think the other inmates who were protesting would start a riot then? I think the security forces went there for Mr Coke to do damage, and they were successful.

I believe the JDF report, and you are doing an excellent job. Continue to use necessary force to restrain these hoodlums. Once again, thank God for the JDF!

- Evil

I cannot believe that any inmate would attack soldiers, and this is just an attempt to justify their beating of Coke. Are soldiers so incompetent that an inmate can just take away his baton? Soldiers have no business guarding prisoners, as we are not in a state of war.

- Linval

The JDF's explanation is far too convenient. I think that what really happened is a case of brutality and attempted murder of an individual who, by law, is innocent until proven guilty by the judiciary.

If Jamaica is to be a country of law and order, the human rights of every single citizen must be respected. This is regardless of all allegations against such.

- Fair and Balanced

Even the most cold-hearted person would be appalled if he knows a fraction of what goes on behind those prison walls. If they knew how the mentally insane are treated when they are incarcerated, how many of them are raped on a daily basic by sadistic prisoners and the warders turn a blind eye.

Now that the JDF has started talking, can it comment on the shooting of Mr Keith Clarke in his home?

They were very quick to respond to the report of yesterday. Let's hear about Keith Clarke now!

One needs to ask oneself, 'What is the mentality of those who prefer to believe the likes of the Coke clan instead of the security forces?' And for those who have never worked with these types in a lock-up/prison environment, you need to wake up. This type of misconduct by these scum of society are commonplace. No tears here.
