Doctor's Advice: Porn action
Q: Doc, I have a new boyfriend. He says he loves me, but I am fretting about one thing. Several times recently, I have come home when he did not expect me to, and I have found him watching porn films on the computer. But this was not just ordinary stuff, Doctor. I could see that it involved guys being very cruel to girls - beating them, threatening them with knives and (I think) raping them. One involved a gang of men abusing a woman. When I asked him about this stuff, he simply laughed and said it was 'just a little fun'. So do you think he is weird or maybe crazy? And should I break up with him?
A: Unfortunately, there is a small group of men who get intense sexual pleasure out of the idea of being cruel to women. And I have to tell you that there are many porn sites which cater for that type of male.
As you have found out, these sites are pretty disgusting. They show what appears to be dreadful sexual cruelty towards women, though I imagine that the participants are just acting. Some countries are trying to ban these websites.
Alas, it is clear that your new boyfriend is into that type of thing! You have now found him watching this stuff on several occasions. That almost certainly indicates that he finds it sexually exciting.
Now you ask me whether he is 'weird'. Well, to be frank, I think he is very odd indeed. Also, there has to be the possibility that he is dangerous. You see, guys who are excited by violent sexual pornography do sometimes start going in for that sort of activity in real life.
In other words, there has to be a serious risk that he will start doing cruel and painful things to you. Therefore, I feel that you should stop seeing him right away. If you do not do so, your health and your life could be at risk.
Can I get the 'male Pill' here?
Q: My guy has told me that he would be willing to take that 'male Pill' thing. But is it available in Jamaica?
A: No, it isn't. In fact, it isn't available anywhere in the world. Although scientists are continuing to try to develop a contraceptive Pill for men, they just haven't been successful yet. I would be surprised if a male Pill becomes available in less than five years.
Should I lose some inches?
Q: Doc, my problem is unusual in that I suspect my male organ is too big for any woman. Is this possible? And could I get surgery to reduce it in size? I am still a virgin.
A: In my entire medical career, I have never seen a guy whose penis was too large for him to have sex, so I guess you are probably mistaken in your estimate of your own dimensions.
The answer here is for you to go to a doctor and see what he says about the size of your organ. Of course, he will not be able to see it when it is erect. But these days, there is a simple way of getting around that difficulty. Just use your mobile phone to take a photo of your erect organ. Most important: first place a ruler alongside it so that the doctor will be able to look at the picture and see exactly how big it is.
My guess is that the doctor will be able to reassure you that you are normal. But in the most unlikely event that you are not, then surgery would be available.
Why does it smell?
Q: I am very embarrassed because of the fact that ever since I had sex for the first time, my vagina has smelled bad. Why?
A: This strongly suggests that you picked up an infection during that sexual encounter. The infection could be caused from a number of different germs, notably a group which is called the anaerobes.
Please see a doctor as soon as possible. He or she will be able to do tests and make an exact diagnosis. It is very probable that he or she will then be able to give you some medication that will cure you - perhaps a drug called metronidazole.
Wetting my pants?
Q: Dear Doc, a pleasant day to you. I am a male, and I have noticed that when I sit anywhere for 20 minutes or so, moisture collects inside the front of my pants. I am somewhat concerned that other people might notice this. Some time ago, I had a brief relationship with a young girl during which we had unprotected sex. I suspect she was carrying gonorrhoea. After we broke up, I experienced severe pain in passing urine. My doctor found out that I had an infection but didn't tell me exactly what it was. I had treatment and the pain went away. But I am wondering if the infection wasn't treated adequately, and that this is why my pelvic area is producing this moisture?
A: Sounds to me like you have non-specific urethritis (NSU), which is an inflammation of the urinary pipe. I cannot say whether you got it from that young lady.
But a guy should not be 'leaking' moisture from the penis like this. You definitely need treatment.
So please go to a doctor. You should take care not to pass urine during the couple of hours before the doctor examines you. This is because urination would wash away the evidence of NSU, thus preventing the doctor from making a diagnosis. I am sure he will be able to give you an adequate course of antibiotics, which will get rid of your symptom.
Is my sister possessed?
Q: My sister recently had sex for the first time. A month later, she suddenly fell to the ground, shaking all over and foaming from her mouth. This has now happened three times. In the attacks, she bites her tongue and makes it bleed. People are saying that she is possessed by devils. Some believe that it has all occurred because she had sex. What do you think, Doc?
A: This is nothing to do with sex, and your poor sister is not "possessed by devils". What you are describing are the classic symptoms of an epileptic fit.
So she has quite bad epilepsy, and it is very important that she sees a doctor and has some tests, including, if possible, an electrical test of the brain. She will need to go on regular daily medication, which will help to keep the fits away.
