Published:Friday | March 30, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Alliance Next Generation (ANG) artiste Calado continues to surge forward as one of dancehall's and Bounty Killer's brightest young protégés.

Since the start of 2012, the young artiste has been doing numerous recordings, aiming to attract the hardcore dancehall fans, as well as releasing underground dancehall videos to capture the industry from the foundation.

His most recent song that has been transformed into visual imagery is titled Run and stresses the street credibility of Calado, Bounty Killer and ANG. The song is produced by Cannon/Dre Day Records, and the video is directed by Cash Flow Records.

The music videoshoot was supported by the entire ANG Camp, as well as other members of the music industry, and will be released next week.

Konshens focused on fun music

Dancehall artiste Konshens says he is more focused on making good music and pleasing the fans, rather than competing with other artistes.

The deejay, who is currently burning up the charts with Do Sup'n and Gal A Bubble, has responded to a perception that he wants to 'run the place'. "I just want to make great music, have fun and be able to support my family. At the same time, I want to continuously maintain an interest in my music and the Konshens brand," he said.

According to Konshens, musical controversy has its consequences. "The artistes who supposedly 'run the place' thrive on a combination of factors. The music and the controversy that surrounds them outside of the music ... . Life is too serious to get caught up in those kinds of situations, because the consequences can be drastic," he said.

Konshens is gearing up to intensify promotions for his recently released album Mental Maintenance.

Sanjay drops collabs

Dancehall/reggae artiste Sanjay has dropped two intense collaborations which have bolstered his image as one of the better songwriters in the dancehall arena.

The first track, Piece A Di Wine, released last month, was produced by Conroy of Washroom Entertainment for Sanjay's Portland Cottage Productions and features Beenie Man. The collaboration has been described as a legitimate club banger. Since its release, Piece A Di Wine has been popular online and is receiving good airplay on FAME FM, Zip FM and several radio stations locally, in the Caribbean and the southern United States.

Sanjay also released a collaboration featuring reggae sensation Alaine. The track, Wine Closer, was produced by Arif Cooper on his Fresh Air Productions label on the Worldwide Rhythm. Like Piece A Di Wine, Wine Closer has also secured a good position on local airwaves and is expected to be a favourite among not only Sanjay fans, but dancehall fans in general.

With these two collaborations, Sanjay hopes to create a good impression in 2012.

Stanpipe tackles Madonna's 'Like A Virgin'

Reggae artiste Stanpipe has created his version to popular Madonna single Like A Virgin. The song also features a sample of Madonna's voice over the classic track, which was recorded by the pop icon in 1984.

According to Stanpipe, the song got some attention on Madonna's Twitter page.

"Before me get a Twitter account, a friend told me dat the song was one of the top three tweets on Madonna's page. When me see dat, me started monitoring it and it remained on her page for two months," he said.

The artiste hopes to get global recognition for the single. However, due to the strict laws targeting copyright offenders, Stanpipe disclosed that "My attorney is seeking permission and I hope he gets it. As for Madonna, I would love for her to see that she has impacted millions across the world, even little me - Stanpipe from the Standpipe community in Kingston, Jamaica."

Justin Beiber sued over phone prank

Baby hitmaker Justin Beiber recently posted a telephone number to his 19 million followers on Twitter and urged fans to call him "right now". However, two residents of Texas claim they were plagued with over 1,000 calls, even though the tweet was quickly deleted.

A lawyer representing the pair - a man named Kent and a woman named Dilice - is demanding they get compensation for the problems caused by the prank. In addition to monetary compensation, they are also asking for an endorsement of Kent's upcoming online project.

Justin - who is currently dating Selena Gomez - is likely hoping the legal action will not cost him too much, as the Canadian star recently purchased a US$6-million luxury home in California. Neighbours will inclusde Steven Spielberg and Britney Spears and the home includes a swimming pool and a guest house.

He also reportedly plans to install a computer system which will control blinds, lights and other house gadgets.
