Peacock Soirée: a winner!
AFJ gives J$19m to charity
The South Florida Peacock Soirée held recently in Miami, Florida, was a winner. The soirée is one of the American Friends of Jamaica's (AFJ) two signature fund-raising events for charities in Jamaica. The second is the Hummingbird Gala in New York later this year. The Honourable Dr Maurice William Facey and his gorgeous wife, Valerie, were honoured during the event in Miami. Legendary reggae crooner Freddie McGregor gave a spectacular performance.
The AFJ board of directors then arrived in Jamaica to tour Montego Bay on Tuesday, April 3, and presented the annual grants during the official award ceremony on Wednesday, April 4.
AFJ President, Ambassador Sue Cobb, Ambassador Glen Holden, Ambassador Brenda LaGrange Johnson and other directors were among on the team that travelled to Montego Bay immediately after the Miami soirée. They toured Cornwall Regional Hospital and Melody House and made presentations of some J$19 million to recipients.
Here are some pictorial highlights of the soirée.
