PUMA & Cedella, perfect combo for CFW
Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) 2012 kicked off on Thursday with a smashing opening-night reception at the Spanish Court Hotel. This year has been an exceptional one for the producers. The event marks the return of Cedella Marley, but this time around she appears in multiples.
Her collaboration with sports and lifestyle apparel giants PUMA is set to grace the CFW runway tonight as she unveils the collections of Jamaica Olympic team gear. Marley will also use the event to launch her new swimwear line - HIGH TIDE.
Marley has a natural mystic vibe about her which seems to belie her fierce, competitive, determined spirit. Reggae royalty she is, being the firstborn of Bob and Rita Marley, but that has only served to fuel her passions and desire to chart her own course and create her own history. As an accomplished singer, an inspiring author, a visionary entrepreneur, she is a self-made woman, with each aspect of her multifaceted creativity honouring her familial legacy. The world first met Cedella as a singing and dancing teenager with The Melody Makers, but tonight, she will happily wear the hat of adventurous fashion designer.
Her models are on the ready and final preparations, nips and tucks have been made to make sure not a strand is out of place when they strut the CFW runway. From all indications, the collections are already in high demand.
A plethora of other seminal designers, including Meiling, Mutamba and Biggy, will be on show at CFW tonight. But after the collections, the evening's offerings will shift gear into a full concert performance by Grammy winner, Estelle. Baby Cham, featuring O, will also be performing.
CFW continues tomorrow with collections from other top emerging and established designers, such as Gavin Douglas. The Jolly Boys will open the musical proceedings for American R&B headliner, Brian McKnight.
