'Crabbing' out in Montego Bay
Months ahead of the St James Police Civic Committee's Independence Ball scheduled for October 20, the group led by Dr Lee Bailey has commenced a series of fund-raising activities heralding the event.
Last Saturday night, the civic-minded citizens, mainly from the city of Montego Bay, hosted their first All-You-Can-Eat Crabfest at Patrick Casserly's The Sand Bar at the world-famous Doctor's Cave Beach in the tourism capital.
From boiled, curried and garlic crab, cooked by the renowned crab chef Jacqueline Williams to the corn on the cob and potato salad prepared by Margaritaville Caribbean's executive chef, Cecil Jagdath, and his team, Montegonians turned out in their numbers to support the cause.
"We have planned three signature events to raise funds to rehabilitate some 14 police stations in St James. They include the October 20 ball, this crabfest, and possibly a New Year's Day bash on the first of January 2013," says Dr Bailey.
According to him, without persons such as Patrick Casserly, who gave the venue for the crabfest free of charges and corporate citizens such as Margaritaville Caribbean, the efforts would be in vain.
"One company, Amstar, purchased some 50 tickets for their staff, that is the kind of support the police are getting from the city's entrepreneurs," said Dr Bailey, lauding the response he and his team has been receiving since the St James Police Civic Committee was launched just under a year ago.
