Newly installed president of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay East, Lilieth Gregg, who took up the mantle last week, said she will be pursuing her mandate via the club's annual theme, 'Peace Through Service'.

"Our theme allows us to be as creative as we can as there are so many ways that this can be applied," she said. The new president has also pledged to continue the excellent service of her organisation over the years.

Guest speaker was iconic gender specialist Linnette Vassell.

With reference to the membership of the club, she said, "I see here men and women in partnership in development, what we want is to realise the potential we have as women."

She noted, however, that from the nation got the vote, women comprise only 13 per cent of Parliament, and that only about 30 per cent of women are serving on boards.

"This is unacceptable," she charged.

NEW DIRECTORS

Along with Gregg, the other incoming officers are Vice-President Tahalia Small, secretary Jhanelle Wagstaffe, treasurer Peter Williams and Sergeant at Arms Nathan Robb. The new directors are Tahalia Small, Roy Murray, Govind Chulani, Winsome Stewart, Hermes Madu, Kerri-Ann Dalrymple and Sanjae Walker.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award was conferred on Dale Davis, Winsome Stewart and Tahalia Small and outgoing President Hermes Madu. Five persons were given the Rotarian of the Year award. They are Curt Ward, Winsome Stewart, Lilieth Gregg, Tahalia Small and Dale Davis.

Rotarian Leroy Peart chaired the function while entertainment was provided by the maestros Norman McCallum on guitar and Rosina Moder on the recorder, both lecturers at the Edna Manley College.

The installation was also used to celebrate the club's 20th anniversary. Hermes Madu is the immediate past president.
