Princess and stepmother

1. Some are saying the ongoing saga between the beautiful princess and the stepmother is akin to the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. They are hoping this does not end like the story where the wicked one gets pushed in the oven and baked.

Foreign hands for upgrade

2. Neighbours in the uptown neighbourhood are questioning why it was necessary for the contractor to bring in a bunch of foreigners to renovate the newly acquired property.

Runaway bride

3. Friends say the mail-order bride arrived from her European home, and after appearing to settle in long enough to assimilate and obtain a US visa, she has taken off for the US and, now, not even her husband knows where to find her.

Where are the invites?

4. Story is that some in the social circles have a misplaced sense of entitlement that has led to some complaining about not being invited to preferred parties and receptions. The response from some hosts, however, is that those complaining should or could do a spot of entertaining themselves instead of constantly seeking invites.

Classy same-sex wedding

5. Story out of the Hamptons is that residents there are still talking about the beautiful marriage of the Jamaican immigrant to his same-sex lover recently. The story is that one of the grooms' sons was the giveaway 'father', while the mother, and other family members, including her church members, of the other groom, journeyed up from Jamaica and Canada to share in the celebrations. Residents say it was one very classy affair.

Disquiet at 50

6. Some Jamaicans are saying that the level of activity and excitement in the diaspora concerning the Jamaica 50 celebrations far outweigh the activity in Jamaica to promote and/or celebrate the event. They say the home-grown celebrations are not being given the priority and sense of import they should, hence the growing sense of unease and disquiet as the 50th birthday approaches.
