Light action

Some are calling for heads to roll at JPS over the fiasco that saw the nation without electricity as it readied itself to celebrate its 50th Independence and as the nation steeled itself to support its Olympians in their quest for gold in London. The talk is that such a major power outage cannot be swept away or explained away as a mere accident.

Where's the apology?

Some are saying the Opposition owes the nation and the minister of culture an apology over the stance and pronouncements leading up to the 50th Independence celebration, as the minister gave the nation a celebration befitting the historic occasion.

Out of place

Jamaicans are outraged that entertainer Tony Rebel used the nation's 50th Independence to launch into another of his tirades promoting his prejudices. They complained that the managers of the event fouled up as his microphone should have been turned off instantly.

Gala threat

Some are still in shock over the story that one senior public-sector figure demanded that he be given 200 premium tickets to the Grand Gala, or else he would shut down the operation within a particular arm of Government. They are now demanding that the portfolio minister send him packing forthwith.

Story is that the newly appointed manager, who got physical with a staffer late last week, is doing the media circuit and is not going down well at all. Some say a strike is still on the table while others are simply calling for tough action.

Word out of London is that it seems the Brits had not got the memo, as when one of their own, domiciled here, turned up, deep accent and all, seeking access to an Olympic event, she was asked for her accreditation! According to those in London, this did not go down well at all, and saw the one trying to gain access flying into a hissy-fit and asking: "Do you know who I am?"

What's up, cops?

Talk is that some are asking for more than an explanation from the police after the recent high-profile arrests and statements that suggested that the police had nabbed one or more of the masterminds of the lotto scammers. They say the lightweight charges that followed the high-profile and much-publicised arrests and the nonsensical charges of being in possession of a television set are more than cause for concern about the police and their investigative skills and ability!
