Surprising slight

1. Friends are expressing surprise - shock even - that in light of the fact that they hosted an 'Honorary Birthday Reception' for Her Majesty, they did not get an invite for Tea during their trip to Britain recently. Others say Her Majesty's subjects are not necessarily Her Majesty's friends, so no surprises here.

Grounded for Olympics

2. Some are saying there was weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth by some during the Olympics, stuck as they were here on The Rock, because of a change in their political fortunes.

Where's the holiday?

3. Tongue-in-cheek quote of the week: "If former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson was still leading the Government, we probably would have had three days of national holidays to celebrate our athletes' performance at the Olympics!"

Enemies of the State

4. Trending now: American Carl Lewis is now regarded as public enemy number one by most Jamaicans, following his comments in which he sought to question the natural prowess of the darling of Jamaican sprint, Usain Bolt. President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge, is public enemy number two.

Make up your mind!

5. Some are calling for the Government to speak in one voice on its position on the JPS. They say, whatever the Government's position, it must first and foremost represent the interest of the consumers and productive sectors, and if that includes a breaking up of the monopoly, as suggested earlier, then so be it!

Scammers all around

6. Stories are circulating that some of those who are trustees of the monies remitted to these shores by the gullible, in search of lottery winnings, are themselves scamming the scammers by holding on to the remitted funds, leaving the original scammers with no redress as they, fearing arrest, make no report.
