Malahoo-Forte a throwback to tribalistic past
THE EDITOR, Sir:
For a few days now, I have listened to the Power 106 radio programme 'Justice', hosted by former judge and former minister in the last administration, Senator Marlene Malahoo-Forte.
It came to the point where I started thinking how refreshing it was to have someone of her calibre on air, someone prepared to set aside her political hat and balance the scales in favour of presenting the truth, no matter where it leads.
I must have been dreaming, because on Thursday, August 24, Senator Malahoo-Forte brought me crashing right back to reality with a display, the likes of which could be bettered only by her predecessor, 'Motty' Perkins, although I dare say, Motty, while her equal in vitriol, bests her by far in terms of logic.
Angered by an article on Page A7 in Thursday's Gleaner by your columnist, reporter Gary Spaulding, Senator Malahoo-Forte showed her true colours, clearly upset by what she interpreted as an unworthy attack against her colleague, Daryl Vaz, in the recent matter in which Mr Vaz has been charged for perverting the course of justice.
JEKYLL AND HYDE
Senator Malahoo-Forte let down her guard for all to see. Suddenly, the fictional Mr Hyde was replaced by the real-life Dr Jekyll and what a sight that was.
Senator Malahoo-Forte went into all-out attack mode and her hatred of the People's National Party (PNP) was clearly displayed, the range and variety of her rhetoric increasing on a minutely basis. Setting aside all reason, Senator Malahoo-Forte reeled out a veritable list of all the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) attack points.
At one stage, she gleefully spoke about a rumour she had heard about some disaster which was impending under the PNP administration. I thought to myself, of what benefit could that be to the country, or had Malahoo-Forte forgotten about that part of her radio and political platform?
Yet the icing on the cake for me was Senator Malahoo-Forte's unbounded joy, after taking one St Mary caller. The caller had noted that God was at work when He allowed the PNP to win so that it could be utterly embarrassed.
That caller happens to be someone well known in the Port Maria area and who has assumed importance for her unbridled tongue. I wonder if this is the company that Senator Malahoo-Forte really wants to keep.
