No care for disabled at PriceSmart

The PriceSmart shopping centre on Red Hills Road. A customer has complained that enough is not being done to preserve parking spots for disabled customers.

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write in regard to the uncaring attitude of the management of PriceSmart towards handicapped persons. On entering, there are about five spaces for such persons, but because they are not monitored, the able-bodied persons park without thinking of the people in need.

I have complained several times after seeing persons in wheelchairs struggling to come from the car park. I witnessed a man who seem to have had one leg amputated recently complaining, and I intervened, telling the supervisor and the man how upset I was because I have been complaining for weeks.

However, all I am told is that they will try to put an object in the space and monitor the spot.

I had reason to complain again and even told them that their competitor has a guard who removes the chain and allows handicapped persons to park.

This time, I was told to take it up with management, as they are the ones who can do something about it. I believe PriceSmart only cares about making money in Jamaica and has no regard for for us.

May I suggest that The Gleaner and others go there and observe for yourselves.
