Digicel partners with Bambino's Y.O.W back-to-school treat

Over $4M in back-to-school supplies donated to over 18 communities islandwide

With the start of the new school year only a few days away, Digicel continues to help lighten the load for parents with the donation of over $4 million worth of back-to-school supplies and over 18 communities across Jamaica.

One of the events high on the company's agenda is the Youth of the World Foundation Back-to-School Family Fun Day Charity Treat, being put on by popular disk jockey and radio personality Orrett 'Bambino' Hart and Delroy Escoffery, from D'Empire Management.

Founded by Hart and Escoffery, the inaugural Y.O.W Foundation has identified over 1,500 top-performing students from thirty high schools in inner-city communities across Kingston and St Andrew, who are in need of assistance with back-to-school supplies.

CELEBRATION OF STRONG SPIRIT

The children, along with their parents, will be fêted to a fun-filled day to close out the summer holidays and assisted with some much needed back-to-school items in recognition of their hard work. According to Bambino, "There are so many children today that continue to defy their social circumstances and produce excellent academic results, and they truly deserve to be rewarded."

Tahnida Nunes, Digicel's sponsorship manager commented that, "At Digicel, our back-to-school donations are very important to us for a number of reasons. For one, we are committed to the future development of Jamaica, and what better way to secure our bright future than through our youths. Secondly, as a brand, the spirit of giving back and helping those in need is deeply embedded in our ethos".

Some of the items donated by Digicel to the various back-to-school treats include backpacks, pencil cases, water bottles, and calculators, among other items the children will need throughout the school year.

In the meantime, in explaining the vision for his charity treat, Bambino said, "This treat will bring the curtains down on the summer and provide support for the less fortunate students preparing for back to school. The impetus for this endeavour was fuelled by the prevailing economic climate and fiscal constraints, which many times create an increase in the number of requests for assistance when the back-to-school season begins. We really want to thank Digicel and all the sponsors who have come on board to make this initiative a reality," closed Hart.

Sagicor will also be on hand with its mobile medical bus to administer free check-ups, as well as representatives from the First Global Bank Limited who will be discussing access to student loans.
