Trench Town studio to open its doors

Ahead of the premiere of Born in Trench Town, the Jamaica Music Institute (JaMIN) Recording Studio and Certification Laboratory is set to be officially opened on Fifth Street this week.
The September 5 opening will also introduce the JaMIN song competition which is meant to encourage the use of the space.
Guest speaker for the opening ceremony will be Percival James Patterson, former prime minister of Jamaica.
The project is funded by The United States Agency for International Development, United Nations Development Programme, Ministry of National Security, Jamaica Social Investment Fund, and The Agency for Innercity Renewal. The studio and certification laboratory were developed under the Jamaica Violence Prevention, Peace and Sustainable Development Programme, which is geared towards developing alternative livelihoods for residents of tough inner-city communities.
