Deon Silvera delights in 'Fifty 2 Rahtid'

It is a delight to watch comic actress Deon Silvera in Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid, the hilarious comedy revue by Aston Cooke now playing at the Pantry Playhouse.

In this production, Silvera successfully takes on multiple roles which leave the audience in stitches.

In Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid, Silvera brilliantly takes on characters such as an ageing returning resident, squatter, hooker, and country girl. But it is her recurring role as the ghetto-fabulous 'Ray Ray' which had the audience rolling in the isles.

In one scene, Ray Ray and her accomplice check in at the airport for their first trip abroad, to hilarious effect.

Theatre critics and theatre goers have been speaking highly of Silvera's performance in Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid as she delivers a bellyful of laughter from start to end.

Theatre experience

The 1995 and 2011 Best Actress brings to Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid, a wealth of theatre experience. Silvera started her theatre career when she won a scholarship to the Jamaica School of Drama in 1978 followed by roles in LTM Pantomimes, Pirate Princess, Tantaloo and Gineral B.

Supporting Silvera on stage for Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid are the equally talented Dahlia Harris, Ainsley Whyte, Marlon Campbell, Akeem Mignott and Camille Wilson.

Grub Cooper is in charge of music; Kevin Moore of the National Dance Theatre Company choreographs, while the production is directed by Dahlia Harris.

Jamaica Fifty 2 Rahtid plays at the Pantry Playhouse Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. with matinee performances on Sundays at 6 p.m.
