Kadeem Wilson takes on new 'Backslider' role
Ghett'a Life's Kadeem Wilson features in the gospel musical Backslider, which opened at the Theatre Place over the weekend.
Wilson, who is no stranger to acting or the big screen, having had a role in the popular Jamaican movie Ghett'a Life, is sure to woo theatre audiences in his latest showing.
Part of the four member cast, he was baptised at 13 and was introduced to acting and singing while at church. The actor, who is from a family of actors (his cousin, Sheldon Shepherd, played the lead role in another Jamaican movie, Better Mus' Come) will help tell an intriguing story about real life and real choices.
The musical, written by Devon Morgan and directed by Pablo Hoilett, is centred on two young devout Christians who migrate to England and face situations that challenge their faith.
Backslider, filled with witty dialogue, pulsating gospel songs and movements that will touch the heart and soul, storms a plot that comes alive in a way that will appeal to both Christian and non-Christian audiences.
Backslider plays at the Theatre Place, 8 Haining Road, New Kingston Thursdays to Saturdays at 8 p.m., and at 5 p.m., on Sundays.
