New lunch experience d'town
Located on the corner of Harbour and Church streets, F&B Downtown inside the Swiss Stores has brought a new meaning to lunch downtown. It was a new concept that started in July, according to managing director Ueli Bangerter. He dished about the development of the downtown area and spoke about the Swiss Stores' existence in that part of the city since the 1950s. "We have been here since 1958 and we were the first building in Jamaica to get air-conditioning," he boasted. "We have always been downtown and we aren't going anywhere. With Digicel now coming downtown, as well as Supreme Ventures, employees are going to need a good place to eat," he ended. The best-seller at the restaurant since opening is the half pumpkin soup accompanied by a half ham and cheese sandwich. The pumpkin soup is one Bangerter says is out of this world and the way in which the sandwich is prepared is really different, and that's the reason why people love it so much. Each sandwich is made fresh to order, and each combo meal is also one that is very balanced for lunch. "Not too heavy and not too light," explains Bangerter. "Just right."
The restaurant was started downtown to provide more options to those who work there. "We started downtown in 1958, and 54 years later we still believe in downtown. We were the front runners back then and we are still trying to be front runners now. We felt that there was a need for something different downtown and we wanted to present it in a fresh and trendy way because we had the space to do so," he stated.
Although this will be the restaurant's first year in Restaurant Week, the management thinks that it is a great idea. "We joined this year because we wanted people to eat out more and out of their canteens so we thought that this would be a perfect fit for us," ended Bangerter. .
