Cover girl Jeneil
Outlook turns the spotlight on Jeneil as we continue our Pulse transformation series
She is one of the most recognisable and respected models to grace the catwalk at home and broad. Pulse supermodel Jeneil Williams turned the heat up a few notches this fashion season, adding several major editorials and campaigns to her usual breakout performance on the runway shows in New York and London. A Vogue cover girl, Love cover girl, Pirelli calendar star and Karl Lagerfeld muse, Jeneil has nothing left to prove, but nonetheless continues to strive for new standards of fashion excellence. And that is the key for Williams, not so much the quantity of work (although that has been amazing), but rather the range, quality and pizazz that the combination of her skills and her A-list clients provide.
The Burberry star for the past few seasons in London, Jeneil made the cover of the Wall Street Journal, not once, but twice, as the revered publication reviewed the fashion season with a focus on the iconic brand. In February, her many London clients included the revered Vivien Westwood. This season, she made more than a dozen appearances in New York, doing catwalk mileage for the likes of Richard Chai, Zero and Zac Posen. She was forced to skip the Milan shows to complete more important new assignments in New York before going to Paris. The London shows have gone very well for Jeneil once again, and her client list again includes Vivien Westwood.
Model search
Jeneil is a former first runner-up in Pulse's Caribbean Model Search.
However, her real achievement this season has been the way she combined the shows with massive editorials and major campaigns. And the season is not yet done. Imagine current editorials for W's Big Fashion Book and German Vogue, thereby adding to a Conde Nast catalogue that includes her American Vogue cover, British Vogue, her Love cover, Russian Vogue and Italian Vogue. It cannot be forgotten that Jeneil, also an i-D cover girl and French covergirl, was the only Caribbean model who made the historic all-black issue of Italian Vogue. French GQ is also on her résumé.
But not only have the new editorials been amazing, Jeneil has also reached another level of commercial success, being featured in current campaigns for Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo and Nordstrom. Her range and depth in a single season is unprecedented for a model from our region and compares favourably with any global superstar.
Apart from Burberry, Vivien Westwood, Zero and Richard Chai, the Victoria's Secret model's standout runway appearances in recent seasons include a who's who list of Lanvin, Diesel, Ungaro, Isaac Mizrahi, Marc Jacobs, Reed Krakof, Fendi, Gaultier, Galliano, Narciso Rodriquez, Nicole Miller, Rosa Cha, Paul Smith, Tommy Hilfiger, Custo Barcelona, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Zac Posen, Diane Von Furstenberg, Loewe, Lacoste, Miu Miu by Miuccia, plus such other heavy hitters as Prada, Celine, Chloe and Roksanda Ilinic, among other style savants.
The fashion industry has formed a special connection with Williams, one that appears to be stronger now than ever. Given her impressive track record, it is now to be seen just how far she will go. This season she continues to set new marks and no one is betting against her ability to simply rise and rise.
