Chicken mofongo is an international dish to which Melting Pot has added its own flair, and with which it has found great success.

Located inside the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston, the restaurant has stamped a gold star on the dish and labelled it a sure love for foodies of the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week.

Popular in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Melting Pot's variation of the chicken mofongo is described as a breaded-chicken breast with bacon, ripe plantain and cheese.

"And, of course, our sauce is one-of-a-kind," said Clarence Taylor, a food and beverage supervisor at the establishment.

The chilli cream sauce, which is also served with the dish, is also out of this world. Taylor likened the mofongo's popularity in these countries, comparable to ackee and salt fish's fame in Jamaica.

A main course, in the Savoury category, the chicken mofongo will be served with a parmesan potato moulded with sesame seeds or calaloo or pumpkin rice.

As Giselle Lobban, also a food and beverage supervisor, explained, the starch served with the dish changes each day.

"People come from all over the world and request it," notes Lobban of the dish which has graced their menu for two years, "others come back and ask for it."
