Delve into great Italian food

Published:Thursday | October 18, 2012 | 12:00 AM

For this year's Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week, Ristorante Baci will take you on a gastronomic trip to Italy. To make sure everyone can come along, this year it has moved from the Delectable category to the affordable Savoury. As their tag line states, 'Do you know why great Italian food has to be so expensive? Neither do we."

And great it will be. General Manager Jeffrey Lesker is very excited about the move and about this his first Restaurant Week in the Caribbean. With chef Courtney Virgo at the helm, they aim to please.

Diners will be salivating from the start. Whether they choose the brushetta di pomodoro or calamari fritti, it will be a great way to start before delving into one of four delectable main courses.

One very popular dish that has made it from the regular menu to the Restaurant Week menu is the chicken Parmesan. Capitalising on Jamaicans' love for chicken, they have taken this everyday bird to new heights. Think roasted breaded chicken breast cutlet baked with melted mozzarella cheese, marinated and served with mushroom and spaghetti.

Another star dish on the menu is another favourite - linguini vongole bianco. This is not your everyday pasta dish. Simple yet explosive in taste, it's linguine served with olive oil, garlic and whole baby clams.

And to top it off, a traditional Italian dessert, the dessert of all desserts - cannoli.
