Remission Retro Party to raise funds for staff cancer fund

The Jamaica National Sports and Social Club (JNSSC) kicks off the first in a series of fund-raising activities tomorrow, a 'Remission Retro Party', to support its newest initiative, the JN Sports & Social Club Cancer Charity Fund.

It is envisioned that the fund, conceptualised by club chairman, Kerry Scott, will provide support to JN staff members diagnosed with cancer.

He explained that several staff members were diagnosed with cancer and, subsequently, struggled to deal with the financial burden.

"Through this charity, we want to create a pool of funds that we can draw on whenever staff members need assistance to manage their cancer treatment," said Scott, former captain of Kingston Cricket Club's Senior Cup team.

He noted that persons external to the sports club will be invited to sit on the committee, which will be charged with administering the fund.

"While it will remain a JNSSC-driven initiative, we will be inviting stakeholders from a wide field to benefit from shared perspectives about the growth and administration of the charity, as well as to ensure that we reach as many staff members as possible," Scott said.

Remission Retro Party is to be held at the JN Chief Office Upper Car Park.

"Remission follows in the tradition of JNSSC's annual October fund-raising event,. However, this year's event will be very special, as it will be an initiative to support staff members," Scott added.

Ricardo Williams, vice-chairman, social, JNSSC, emphasised that Remission will be targeting staff members from across the JN Group, at all levels.

"We want to create a quality event that will cater to different persons. And it is our hope that the retro music will bring them all together," said Williams. The party will also serve inclusive mixed drinks.

The 9 p.m. start will feature selections from DJ Pepsi, of Renaissance Disco and DJs Razz and Biggy.

There will also be a lounge area for persons to take a break from dancing to relax and have a drink.

"In light of the overall objective of this fund-raising event, we're asking attendees to wear something pink. While it is not a pink party, we hope that persons will incorporate the colour into their outfits to show support," said Williams.
