  • Earl Hyde - chairman, St Catherine Parish Development Committee:

This road (Ensom Avenue) has been in a bad condition for too long. It's terrible, and something needs to be done about it urgently.

I just had to spend money to fix my shock absorbers. The potholes have now passed the stage of potholes; they are like craters.

I would like to see either the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme or the National Works Agency assisting the St Catherine Parish Council to fix the road as soon as possible.

  • Andre Thomas - electrician:

The road is in a very bad and deplorable condition. When it rains, it is almost like a river course. People get splashed, a lot of cars even [get their] front end mashed up. The road leads to Ensom City Primary School, and we would like the authorities to come and do some work, perhaps do little patching.

  • Michael Hall - resident, Ensom Avenue:

One of my concerns is that the gully on Ensom Avenue is not being cleaned, and with regard to the road, we had spoken with the MP [Olivia Grange] and she promised that the road would have been fixed by the end of October.

It has not been [fixed], and right now the citizens had to get some things and put in some of the potholes, so we need help for the roads and, in particular, Ensom Avenue, quickly.

  • Raymond Brown - president, Ensom City Citizens' Association:

Ensom Avenue is the main entrance into Ensom City from Brunswick Avenue, and it connects to Gordon Pen, Eltham View, and so on. For some time it has been allowed to fall into disrepair. The entire road is riddled with potholes, and they are not potholes anymore, these are like craters.

Mayor [Norman] Scott came and looked at the road and promised to assist, and the Member of Parliament, (Olivia] Grange, I know, is also working to get the road rehabilitated, so I am hoping that it will be repaired soon.

But in the meantime, we would love to see some interim work being done.
