Giving a voice to the Unsung Beats - Boom Energy Drink competition seeks out talent
A new rhythm being released almost every week gives a clear indication that not only is there an insatiable appetite for music, but that Jamaicans are a uniquely talented set of people.
According to a release from The Wisynco Group Limited, there is much talent in the music industry. With that in mind, the company, through its Boom energy drink brand, is attempting to unearth some of it with its Unsung Beats competition.
recognition
"This contest seeks to give recognition to local talented and unknown musicians/producers whose 'riddim/choreographed beats' are unpublished," explained Kimberly Lawson, brand manager for Boom.
Contestants will upload their rhythms via the Facebook Offerpop application. These rhythms will be voted on by fans and a professional panel of judges, including Head Concussion Records' boss, Tarik 'Russian' Johnston.
"The Unsung Beats competition was activated via Facebook last week and we have already had an overwhelming response, with a number of entries coming in," Lawson said.
The top-three rhythms will be selected and the winner will receive a grand cash prize of $50,000.
Pursuant to the Facebook contest, Boom will use the winning rhythm during their Boom Energy Drink Unsung Beats All-Island Road Show, which begins in Westmoreland on December 5 and ends in Linstead on December 24. The brand will engage the local communities' aspiring artistes in all 14 parishes to perform an original song of their choice using the winning rhythm.
"Each parish will have a winner who will progress to the grand finale, when the road show culminates on Christmas Eve," Lawson said.
