Leonie: Her Autobiography, Leonie Forbes as told to Mervyn Morris, is a revealing novel documenting the life and work of one of Jamaica's most renowned and beloved icons in the theatrical arena.

According to Forbes, the book, which was launched in September under the LMH publishing house, has been garnering rave reviews and she is happy with the feedback that she has been receiving.

The veteran actress has been travelling the island to do book signings and told The Sunday Gleaner she had been approached by people her age group and younger who had nothing but good things to say about her story.

Forbes revealed that the audio book is looking at a tentative release date around Christmas, but it could be later. The book is Forbes' sophomore effort. The Club Paradise star had previously co-authored a book with Alma Mock Yen titled The Re-Entry Into Sound.

The book has been in the works for years, Forbes revealed, adding that she is elated to see everything come together so wonderfully.

Don't expect another book from Forbes anytime soon. The theatrical luminary said that she plans to give others a chance to tell their stories as well, and that she hopes her own book acts as inspiration for that.

PLEASED WITH GROWTH IN INDUSTRY

As a veteran actress herself, Forbes said she was happy with the way the performing arts have developed in Jamaica.

The actress, who has been featured in several pantomimes, plays and films - including an Australian production of The Merchant of Venice, said Jamaica has developed many great playwrights since her time.

Although she is pleased with the overall direction that the performing arts in the country have been taking, Forbes pointed out that playwrights, directors and producers need to look into diversifying their offerings.

She said that, although the 'roots plays' are great, the industry is lacking in variety.
