Bahamas security minister takes up CARICOM post
PORT-OF-SPAIN, (CMC):
Bahamas National Security Minister Dr Bernard J. Nottage has taken over the chairmanship of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council of Ministers for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE).
He replaces Antigua and Barbuda's national security minister, Dr Errol Cort, who held the position for the last three years.
Caribbean security ministers have attended the 13th CONSLE meeting on Monday and will participate in the Third Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation Dialogue, a part of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) that begins here today.
On Monday, the ministers discussed the re-establishment of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Office in the region as well as the regional crime and security strategy as well as the implementation of the CARICOM Social Development and Crime Prevention Action Plan.
Cort will co-chair the CBSI high-level dialogue with the United States.
